El Rushbo  -   RIP and Good Riddance!

I was visiting in Palm Desert maybe 30 years ago when I heard El Rushbo on the local radio station. I heard hatred; I listened to bigotry and lies for an more than an hour from this new guy on the radio.

After the show, I called into the station to talk with the manager to express my concerns about this new guy. He took my call and after listening to me asked me to just give him a chance. He acknowledged that Limbaugh was ‘different’ but asked for patience. The manager was right. El Rushbo was different and in the process became a cash cow as stations across the nation raked in the dough - buoyed by product sponsors eager to sell their widgets to the growing army of Ditto Heads across America.

At first, I thought it was a comedy routine because some of what he said and his delivery was kind of funny and professionally delivered. But the humor was just a small part of the hour. Although I could imagine that there were some listeners who agreed with him wholeheartedly and soon, millions would become his Ditto Head followers for the next 30 years.

El Rushbo (that’s what he often called himself) spewed his shocking diatribes and appalling parodies of misogyny, gay bashing and in a recent Corona virus rant, El Rushbo said that cannibalism (citing the Donner party) is just a way of adapting and that Americans had better adapt to the coronavirus. 

El Rushbo, at his death, was purported to have a net worth of $600 million. It seems as if being a consummate showman and belittling people, causing racial disharmony, playing songs about ‘Barak the Magic Negro’ and vilifying those with HIV is a real-money making machine in America. Making a better country was for weak fools.

In those early days, I never would have guessed that there were so many Americans who agreed with El Rushbo. It turns out that they were always in our midst, just too timid to announce their hatred and bigotry out loud. El Rushbo made it okay and when trump came along; it was not only okay but patriotic to be a Confederate Flag-waving white supremacist, low information citizen.

El Rushbo led the way for dozens of other talking heads in this country who spoke in divisive, inaccurate, mean, vile terms about their fellow Americans. And trump gave the thumbs up to 74 million Americans who agreed with El Rushbo and with trump and voted to close out Democracy in the recent election.

El Rushbo and trump may be gone or out of office for now. But El Rushbo’s legion of radio and TV hosts and 74 million trump voters and trump himself are all still alive and well and plotting to reach deep into the beating democratic heart of America and yank it out.

Millions of trump supporters, when recently tested for the Corona virus were found to be infected with a potentially un-Constitutional and highly communicable disease which scientists at the NIH, CDC and NSA are now calling the DJT45/?46! Syndrome .

Further testing revealed that the infection has been found in every one of the 50 states, although it is found to be most prevalent in those states that political scientists color red on an American political map.

The symptoms are not always easy to spot without a thorough examination by an expert in the field of mass psychosis. Seemingly intelligent, normal, hard-working, god-fearing individuals of all sexes, ethnicities and professions have been found to be afflicted with this malady.

Actual practicing physicians, lawyers, white blues singers, black hockey players, Stanford and Yale Law School graduates and Latino Harley riders are among those who have tested positive for the latest strain of  the so-called DJT45/?46! Syndrome.

Officials are concerned that this cohort of violent, flag waving rioters, whose disease caused them to attack the Capitol Building in WDC, will return home and infect their kids and friends; a real super spreader.

Scientists at the NIH are looking into and comparing the DJT45/?46! Syndrome  in the US to a similar outbreak in Germany in the 1930’s and 1940’s. Years ago, the researchers had isolated patient zero, an indigent amateur artist, born in Austria who, through modern testing techniques of his body fragments along with the remains of his associates were found to possess the AH/NAZI  variant of the DJT45/?46! Syndrome.  

In a Manhattan Project-style effort, Anthropologists, Political Scientists, Historians, Educators, Economists and the Clergy are pooling their resources to find a ‘cure’ to this strain of psychosis before it spreads beyond the borders of the US.

Dr Fauci and other prominent epidemiologists are working from the theory that the only way to stamp out this plague-like sickness is a country-wide effort of education, elimination of hunger and poverty and to provide better jobs, medical care and housing for everyone.

After today’s incredibly shameful performance by republican leader mitch mcConnell at the Senate Impeachment Hearings, can anyone think of any way, short of shooting someone on 5^th Avenue, that he can lower himself any deeper into the excrement-filled depths of his life?

In the very near future, books will be written, theses presented and lectures given describing the craven, hypocritical public life of one Addison Mitchell McConnell, Jr. A whole industry will be spawned from his willful deceitfulness. He will be held up and will serve as a model in school children’s civic text books throughout the land - even Kentucky, as an example and cautionary tale of the depths one can sink in politics when one thinks only of his greedy hold on power and need to command and control an entire nation’s direction.

mitch is the quintessential example of a megalomaniac who either has lost or never possessed a sense of right and wrong, nor cares about the long arc of our nations’ history.

I won’t even allow him to cover his ass in a blatant attempt to gain a modicum of respect by pretending to show contempt for trump just minutes after voting to exonerate him.

Who does he think will fall for his mendacity? Does he really believe that after months of prevaricating on ‘Stop the Steal’ that the big corporate donors who have pledged to withhold campaign funds for the Proud Boy/ Oath Keeper/ Confederate Flag/ Right Wing republican Senators they will make a 180 and start writing checks because mitch made a 5 minute speech that he hoped would cover over five years of trump ass-kissing and devious behavior?

No, they won’t. They need to sell their widgets to the 67% of Americans who abhor the unpatriotic, slimy creatures inhabiting the republican side of the Senate.

The game is up for those guys and gals in both Houses and it will become worse for them as reality, education, the truth and a degree of normalcy begins to settle into American life.

This is a paradigm shift…just like Watergate was for republicans.

“The world will little note, nor long remember what (we) THEY say here, but it can never forget what they did here” - paraphrasing Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address…in regard to the trump Senate Impeachment Trial

The one other Presidential impeachment trial for a president not named trump was the impeachment trial of President Clinton. Remember that?

What was he on trial for? For lying about getting a blow job while in office-literally and figuratively. He was impeached by the House and brought to trial in the Senate.

Think about it. The Senate exonerated Clinton in a 55 to 45 vote -. Somehow, in their infinite wisdom, finding that lying about a sexual act in the Oval Office did not rise to the 67% level of ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’ thus, wasn’t cause for losing his job.  

Probably by about the same vote count the Senate will find trump not guilty of inciting insurrection against the legitimately elected government of the United States.

So, one president was on trial for what some say were sexual misdeeds within his marriage and lying about it, while another president is on trial for attempting to topple the rightful government of the United States while he was in office.

Think about it one on trial for lying about a benign blow job, another for fomenting a coup and attempting to overthrow the government and to change the arc of history of our nation and most assuredly, the world.

Lindsay Graham was one of the Republican leaders during the Senate Clinton trial to convict Clinton for his private behavior and now, he’s a Senate leader who is defending trump’s seditious, traitorous conduct.

Honestly, I struggle to understand the Republicans of today other than to accept the realization that they care only about themselves and their cozy seats in Congress. Except for a handful, there are no ‘Profiles in ‘Courage’ but there are many ‘Silence of the Lambs’.

I believe that the Senate Republicans along with 66% of Republican Americans who cling to the  belief that trump won the 2020 election will be treated as unpatriotic, un-American citizens undeserving of respect in history books for the remainder of their lives.

They’ve had their chance over a 5 year+ period to figure out trump and his sycophants and no Chinese-style re-education camp will redeem the; they don’t get to go there. They have my utter disgust and antipathy for their greed, lack of empathy, authoritarianism and willful ignorance.
