There have
been so many mean-spirited, derogatory remarks made by him during the last few
months that it has been hard to figure out his true thoughts or ideas. That’s
assuming that he actually has any real foundational thoughts and ideas. Could
what he says and tweets possibly be his beliefs?
I don’t
understand how a person of such a low human quotient is tolerated, even adored
and worshiped, by such a large portion of Americans. That portion stands firm
at about 32-40%!
The fact
that we have a president who uses childish, mean-spirited nicknames for those
who differ with or oppose his words and actions, but is not taken to the
principal’s office for a good talking to or even a paddling by his idolizing pack,
is beyond my comprehension.
When, as
yesterday, at a campaign rally in Green Bay, Trump took aim at the federal law
enforcement community, referring to some ousted FBI and Justice Department
officials “scum” his devotees screamed with delight.
And, when he announced that “We're sending many of them to sanctuary
cities, thank you very much," 'They're not too happy about it. I'm proud
to tell you that was actually my sick
idea", his admiring throng roared
their approval of his sick threat of sending immigrants to sanctuary cities.
For about an
hour and a half, our president, the ostensible leader of the free world made
fun of Sleepy Joe, Crazy Bernie and Pocahontas, cajoled his faithful and unbelievably
falsely stated…"The
baby is born. The mother meets with the doctor. They take care of the baby,
they wrap the baby beautifully. And then the doctor and the mother determine
whether or not they will execute the baby." The masses
roared their approval of his words.
According to
the Washington Post, he lied 61 times during a 90 minute harangue in Green Bay.
That put him over the top of 10,000 lies during his presidency. And to think
that the NYT and other publications debated whether or not to use the word
‘lie’ when reporting on him at the beginning of his reign. Really, why would anyone believe anything he says?
For a couple
of hours, 10,000 Americans from Wisconsin, the home of both Progressive Robert La
Follett and demagogue Sen Joseph McCarthy,
stamped their feet, clapped their hands and roared their approval of a man who
has made it clear that he is the American incarnation of Vladimir Putin and Benito Mussolini.
Donald
Trump’s election in November 2016 has created an unprecedented situation in the
United States… an American President who aspires to make the United States a
partner in the ongoing international assault on democracy.
By his
continual use of the negative politics of victimization and fear of
marginalization and by creating collective enemies such as Muslims, and dark-skinned
immigrants, he continues to foster a climate of fear and hatred among his
rabid adherents. He continues, non stop, in dividing our country which will
lead only to more violence, death and national division.
He has
become an evil, malevolent force willing to say and do anything to retain power
and through his policies, shovel wealth into the hands of a very small portion of our citizenry.
But, he
is not the only one in power, not the only would-be autocratic force seeking to
bring about a 21st Century authoritarian regime in America. He is
abetted and supported by the entire Republican power elite in Congress as well
as a small percentage of the uber-rich, greedy, self-serving, America-be-damned,
Fake Patriotic American business leaders. They and a contingent of evangelicals
are all acting in perfect concert with our Dear Leader to achieve his inhumane
and dangerous policies.
Some
Republicans have left the party in disappointment and/or disgust so that those
individuals who remain in the 2019 Republican Party support him at the high
rate of about 85-90%. That’s astounding to me…90% of Republicans support such a
malicious threat to our democratic society. What are these people thinking?
What
kind of American citizens are those who still support an authoritarian, wannabe
tyrant? Are we destined to live in a country in which 30-40% of the citizenry
is composed of a combination of uneducated, easily swayed, bigots and racists who
are low-information, anti-science voters so greedy in their business dealings
that clean water, soil and air are secondary to earning a few more bucks than
they’ll ever be able to spend?
Will
we, as a nation, even survive intact if the Republican Party blindly kow tows
to a person seemingly totally devoid of humanity and empathy and who never
laughs or smiles in genuine cheerfulness and humor?
And,
last week he declared that he would not accept any subpoenas from Congress at
all…for his taxes, immigration policies or security clearance explanation. That
would mean that he has complete dictatorial powers over his policies in that
there can be no oversight.
For an
average person in America who works, cares for his or her family and engages
with the community, it’s impossible to keep up with the constant flow of lies
and chicanery emanating from his mouth, Twitter Fingers or the sycophantic
acolytes in his administration.
We all have
to do something to save our country, our community and in the end, ourselves.
We all must question and respond to his vitriolic, hatred of ‘the other’ and
answer his childish flights of made up stories that he recites daily.
We need
everyone that cares for this country’s future to wield a pen, paint a picture,
write a song, use their legal and scientific background and compose on their
keyboards to refute his lies and shine light upon the darkness that he is
spreading across the globe.
We need to
talk, to listen and to try to understand one another in order to bring an ignominious
end to his reign of madness.
