GLEN JEAN, W.Va. (AP) — The Boy Scouts of America says President Donald Trump will visit the 2017 National Scout Jamboree next week in West Virginia.

On Monday, Trump will become the eighth U.S. president to attend a Jamboree. More than 40,000 Scouts, their leaders and volunteers are at the 10-day event.

Okay, now Trump is getting too close to some of my most cherished childhood memories. How did He wrangle an invitation to speak at such a singular event in American Culture? A yearly occasion that serves to help form the bodies, minds and spirits of some of the country’s finest young men.

For those of you who missed out on such an important experience while growing up, WikileekZ is listing below the Boy Scout Oath, Law and Motto. In Dallas, I was a proud member of Troop 25 for 3 years. At our meetings in Shelley Shellenberger’s Cabinet Shop we learned first aid, how to extract a rattlesnakes’ venom from a fellow scout and how Scouts were to act in society.

On camping trips and summer camp at Camp Wisdom, we learned all about the outdoors, fishing, canoeing and how to coax a recalcitrant donkey along a narrow mountain trail. We were all better for those years and I formed years-long friendships with members of Troop 25.

Being in Troop 25 taught me social skills, gave me confidence and helped me interact with adults…who were our leaders.

I did not learn from our troop leaders how to be UnTrustworthy, Not Loyal, UnFriendly & Meanspirited, UnKind & Cruel, Cowardly, Not Helpful and IMmoral. They did not teach and show by example how to be Rude, Boastful or how to get away with anything as long it was to our benefit. In what way is Trump prepared or what has he done to prepare himself? So, what can the president tell the boys that is not a lie or a boast?

    

I’m invested in the Boy Scouts as an institution…despite some of the more prejudiced ideas put forth in their bylaws. We kids didn’t know anything about atheists and agnostics and little about homosexuals. Thankfully that has changed for the better; but now, a man who would not ever be allowed to lead a Boy Scout troop will be honored by being allowed to speak to 40,000 Boy Scouts.

What could He possibly say to the kids to reinforce their Oath, or Law or Motto?
